CANCUN RECOGNIZED WITH 49 BLUE FLAG DISTINCTIONS
August 5, 2025
Cancun continues to lead the way in sustainable tourism, with 49 beaches, hotels, and other sites receiving the Blue Flag designation this week from the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The award recognizes excellence in areas such as water quality, environmental education, safety, and environmental management.

Of the 49 recognized sites, 47 were renewals—already meeting Blue Flag standards in previous years—and two were newly certified. Standout beaches include Perlas, Chacmool, Marlin, Ballenas, and Playa Delfines. In addition to public beaches, four hotels—Fiesta Americana Condesa, Live Aqua, Iberostar, and Flamingo—were also awarded, along with Cancún Sailing, a certified tour operator.

These distinctions solidify Cancun’s status as the destination with the most Blue Flag-certified sites in Mexico, and one of the most highly rated globally. The Blue Flag certification requires compliance with 33 strict criteria, making it a symbol of environmental responsibility and high-quality standards.
