MEXICO’S CULTURAL HERITAGE DRAWS MILLIONS OF CURIOUS TRAVELERS
February 5, 2026
Mexico’s cultural tourism scene had a strong year in 2025, with growing interest in museums and archaeological sites from both domestic and international travelers. Recent figures from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) show that nearly 10 million people visited archaeological zones, while museums welcomed more than 11 million guests — a notable jump from the previous year and a clear sign of renewed curiosity around the country’s history and heritage.

Iconic landmarks remained major draws. Chichén Itzá, Teotihuacan and Tulum once again ranked among the most visited archaeological sites, while institutions such as the National Museum of Anthropology and the National Museum of History led museum attendance. These spaces continue to serve as powerful entry points into Mexico’s pre-Hispanic civilizations, colonial past and vibrant cultural evolution.

Beyond the numbers, this growth reflects something deeper: travelers are increasingly seeking meaningful, place-based experiences. Cultural tourism supports local economies, strengthens community ties and helps preserve historic sites for future generations. As Mexico continues to invest in accessibility, conservation and visitor experiences, its museums and archaeological treasures remain at the heart of journeys that go far beyond the beach.

At Destination Mexico, we believe cultural discovery is an essential part of any incentive experience. Our local expertise allows us to thoughtfully integrate Mexico’s most iconic landmarks, museums, and archaeological sites into programs that feel authentic, enriching, and truly memorable for your guests.
