QUINTANA ROO SHINES AT THE 2025 WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS

Quintana Roo has once again proven why it stands among the world’s most coveted travel destinations. At the 2025 World Travel Awards, the southeastern Mexican state took home an impressive 34 accolades—accounting for 28% of all honors across Mexico and Central America—and firmly cementing its leadership in the region’s tourism industry.

Highlights from this year’s ceremony included major wins for Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Tulum. Cancún International Airport was named the region’s Leading Airport, while Cozumel earned the title of Best Beach Destination. Puerto Morelos was recognized as the Leading Adventure Destination, and Playa del Carmen took home the award for Best City Break. Other winners included Isla Mujeres as Best Island Destination, and Tulum as Best Romantic Destination.

Held for the first time in Cancún, the awards ceremony welcomed representatives from 17 countries and celebrated excellence across Mexico. Notable national winners included Xcaret as Mexico’s Leading Adventure Tour Operator, Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya as the Leading Adults-Only Resort, and Atelier Playa Mujeres as the Leading Conference Hotel. Additional honors went to Hilton Cancún Mar Caribe, Dreams Vista Cancún Golf & Spa, and Marriott Cancún, An All-Inclusive, among others.

Governor Mara Lezama was personally recognized with the Outstanding Contribution to the Travel and Tourism Industry award, presented by World Travel Awards founder Graham Cooke. The event also highlighted the artistry of Maya embroiderers and artisans from Xpichil, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Tulum—reminding attendees that the true heart of Quintana Roo’s success lies in the passion and talent of its people.
