A LA PAZ LANDMARK RETURNS WITH THE OPENING OF PERLA LA PAZ
November 6, 2026

One of La Paz’s most recognizable landmarks has entered a new chapter. Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, has officially opened following an extensive restoration of the historic Hotel Perla, originally inaugurated in 1940. Located directly on the city's iconic Malecón, the 90-room property preserves the spirit of its past while introducing a contemporary hospitality experience inspired by the culture, craftsmanship, and coastal character of Baja California Sur.

The restoration honors the building's Art Deco heritage, including its signature pastel-pink façade, while incorporating Mexican craftsmanship, contemporary artwork, and design elements inspired by its seaside surroundings. A dedicated Memory of Perla space also celebrates the hotel's history through photographs, stories, and memorabilia, recognizing its longstanding role as a gathering place for generations of locals and visitors.

Dining is central to the hotel's identity. La Terraza continues the tradition of serving classic Mexican comfort food and recipes enjoyed for generations, while Perla, the property's signature restaurant, focuses on seasonal cuisine and locally sourced seafood through collaborations with fishing cooperatives. Guests can also enjoy a heated rooftop pool overlooking the waterfront, an intimate spa, and a modern fitness center. With more than 4,600 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, the hotel is also equipped to host meetings, weddings, and private celebrations.

Its location offers easy access to La Paz's restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions, as well as the natural experiences that make the region so appealing, from whale shark excursions to exploring the Sea of Cortez. As part of Hilton's Tapestry Collection, Perla La Paz brings the benefits of an internationally recognized hospitality brand while maintaining the individuality and local character of an independent boutique hotel.

For Destination Mexico, this reopening adds another compelling reason to explore Baja California Sur beyond Los Cabos. La Paz offers a distinctive combination of authentic local culture, outstanding gastronomy, waterfront charm, and remarkable marine experiences. Perla La Paz provides an appealing new base from which to discover it all, opening further possibilities for tailored incentive programs and memorable group experiences.

Hyatt is entering the final months of 2026 with a growing collection of luxury properties across some of Mexico’s most sought-after destinations. From the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur to the Caribbean shoreline of the Riviera Maya and the cultural heart of Mexico City, the company is expanding its portfolio with distinctive properties designed around their individual settings and guest experiences. The Park Hyatt brand is at the center of this growth. Following the opening of Park Hyatt Cabo del Sol in December 2025, Park Hyatt Riviera Maya is expected to open by the end of 2026 as the brand’s first all-inclusive property worldwide. Park Hyatt Mexico City Polanco, a 155-room hotel overlooking Chapultepec Park, is expected to welcome guests in spring 2027. Together, the three properties offer very different ways to experience Mexico, from coastal escapes to an urban cultural stay. Hyatt’s expansion also includes Alila Mayakoba, which opened earlier this year within the Mayakoba complex. Set across 60 acres of beach, lagoon, and jungle, the resort combines wellness, locally inspired design, and a strong connection to the Yucatán Peninsula. Meanwhile, three new Grand Hyatt resorts—Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman, Grand Hyatt Cancun, and Grand Hyatt Los Cabos—are scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, with Cancún and Los Cabos introducing all-inclusive experiences to the Grand Hyatt portfolio. For planners, this growing portfolio creates even more possibilities for designing programs around different sides of Mexico. Whether a group is looking for a sophisticated urban experience, a secluded Caribbean setting, or the landscapes and culture of Baja, Destination Mexico can help bring these new properties together with the authentic experiences, local connections, and seamless logistics that make a program truly memorable
